Wonder Cards™ begin with fascinating facts, but they are not designed for memorization alone. Each card follows a consistent five-part structure: a carefully selected Quote opens the idea, a concise Fact introduces something worth knowing, a Wonder question invites personal curiosity, a Share prompt extends the thinking through conversation, and a Research activity guides the learner toward deeper investigation. Together, these sections help students move from discovering an interesting idea to questioning it, discussing it, and deciding what they want to understand next.

Metacognition—thinking about one’s own thinking—is central to the design of every deck. Learners are encouraged not only to form an answer, but also to notice how they reached it, what evidence influenced them, whether another perspective changed their thinking, and what questions remain. Each card is carefully scaffolded: the Quote creates an opening for interpretation, the Fact provides a foundation, the Wonder prompt makes the idea personally meaningful, the Share prompt introduces another perspective, and the Research activity asks the learner to investigate and develop the concept independently. This gradual progression helps students move from engaging with information to examining their own reasoning about it.

The Research prompts are intentionally shaped by the action verbs of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Across a deck, learners might compare, classify, explain, investigate, analyze, evaluate, design, or create, giving them practice approaching knowledge in many different ways. The facts were chosen not simply because they are fun or surprising, but because they can open larger questions about science, history, literature, mathematics, culture, and human experience. A memorable fact may begin the learning, but the real purpose of every Wonder Card is to help students think more deeply, ask better questions, and become more aware of how they learn.
